After Akira kicks the amps off the stage during the homecoming talent show, the principal threatens to call Akira’s mother. Akira dreads going home to face her mother’s wrath. Her friend Delfina invites her to tag along with her at her swim practice, but Akira never learned to swim. She watches Delfina as she dives off the block and begins to swim.

How does she do it?
How can she breathe?
When will she come up?
Is she different from me?
Her legs are like scissors.
Her arms slice like knives.
I can’t take my eyes off, oh, how she glides.
She just glides,
Glides, glides, glides, glides!

She thinks I’m spoiled.
She sees that I’m weak.
Whipping through water,
She’s so different from me.
Her life is like concrete.
She gets no free rides.
I can’t figure it out, oh, how she glides.
She just glides,
Glides, glides, glides, glides, glides, glides, glides, glides!

Nobody knows
How I’m afraid.
Nobody knows
I’m a charade.
Nobody knows
This world that I crave.
Nobody knows
I feel this rolling wave.

How will I know?
Can I dive in with you?
How will I know?
Can I find out the truth?
Oh, can you teach me?
Can I be by your side?
Can we just glide,
